Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about more preseason rankings.
Last Monday the USA Today Preseason Coaches’ Poll was released where Mizzou debuted at No. 11.
Yesterday, the AP Preseason Top 25 poll came out where Mizzou was also picked 11th.

Meanwhile, in the Football Writers Association of America Super 16 preseason poll — Mizzou is yet again at No. 11.

11th in the country is a respectable and deserved ranking after the breakthrough season the Tigers just had last year, but there are still some valid questions marks on this team for them to be in the Top 10.
Based off of the AP preseason poll, Mizzou would be left out of the College Football Playoff, per Quentin.

And for what it’s worth, Texas made the 4-team playoff last season as the preseason 11th ranked team.
— Eli Hoff (@byEliHoff) August 12, 2024#Mizzou is ranked No. 11 in the preseason AP Poll.
It’s the Tigers’ highest preseason ranking in the poll since 2008, when they were No. 6.
Last year’s preseason No. 11, Texas, went on to make the College Football Playoff.
Regardless, there’s something more to prove for Mizzou Football in 2024. STP.
- From Josh Matejka’s Morning Commute: It was a good weekend for Mizzou in the NFL preseason!
“The NFL kicked off its preseason slate this weekend, which saw some good action for former Tigers across the league, especially younger guys and those trying to make rosters.”
The NFL preseason is underway with former Tigers making some contributions in their first games.

11.) Kristian Williams — Defensive Tackle — Senior.
The lone returning contributor of last season’s underrated interior quarter, Williams will need to continue his rock-solid play — potentially with an increase in snaps — while also grabbing the open leadership mantle left by Darius Robinson. Off-season reports are glowing, and all indications are that Williams is ready to do both of those things. The Tigers rely on his steady production, and his mentorship will be critical as the team relies on a few young and inexperienced players to round out the defensive tackle rotation.
Oregon transfer Krisitan Williams rounds out this edition of Dan’s list at No. 11 as he returns for another season with the Tigers — looking to lead the defensive tackle position.
- Preseason AP Poll from Sam Snelling: Mizzou Football picked 11th
“The College Football AP Poll was released today, August 12th, for the College Football preseason and the Missouri Tigers come in with their highest preseason ranking since 2008.”
The numbers don’t lie. This is Mizzou Football’s most anticipated season since at least 2008.

The 2024 Mizzou Football season is one that has been met with as much anticipation as any in recent memory. With Eli Drinkwitz’s program taking a huge step forward in the 2023 season, going 11-2 and securing a Cotton Bowl victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes, there’s a renewed focus on what Missouri can do to put itself in the conversation for a berth in the College Football Playoff.
The digital magazine we present today is 115 pages chalk full of Mizzou Football previewing, scouting, interviewing, and more…

- From Dylan Heinrich: Lights, Camera, Action! Mizzou Soccer ready for season following preseason press conference
“Is it important to remember that these are still exhibitions and don’t actually count? I mean yeah obviously. But looking at things on a larger scale, winning games against talented teams that are still trying definitely means something, it’s not like Mizzou was just handed a free win.”
Mizzou Soccer went 2-0 in exhibitions, highlighted by a 2-0 win over 19th ranked Wisconsin.
- Over at Rock M+, We’re keeping track of Mizzou Football’s 2025 recruiting class, the preseason Top 25 is out, plus a great piece on Tamar Bates and Mark Mitchell
