You can reach a genetic counselor in a few ways.

- Sending a message in the patient portal.
- Calling their direct phone line, if they've given it to you.

Who should I contact with questions?
Within the Genetics Division
Reach that staff within the Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine at 412-692-5070.
Choose option #1 for our scheduling team. They can help you schedule, cancel, or reschedule visits. These include evaluations, genetic counselor visits, or Genetic Counseling Service appointments.
Choose option #2 for a prescription refill. If you or your child needs a prescription refill for medicines prescribed through their genetics provider.
Choose option #3 for a genetic counseling assistant (GCA). GCAs can help with basic questions about division policies, practices, and visit information. GCAs work seamlessly within our genetic counseling team. They can also:
- Give you information about lab tests.
- Estimate the turnaround time for genetic testing.
- Help foster discussions with your or your child's genetic counselor.
Choose option #4 for an insurance authorization specialist. They can answer your questions about insurance authorization or genetic testing billing.
Choose option #5 for dietary and nutrition issues. For questions about medicine, diet, and other care for metabolic diseases, refer to you or your child's departure summary or emergency letter.
Choose option #6 for newborn screening information. Follow this prompt if you're referred to our office based on a newborn screening result.
If you or your child already had a visit and you need to reach their genetic counselor, send a message through the patient portal. Otherwise, call us and use option #3 so our GCAs can connect you to them.
Outside the Genetics Division
Contact your insurance company for questions about:
- Specific policy details.
- Coverage for procedures, tests, or imaging.
- The cost to visit a specialist.
Call our price estimation hotlinefor an estimated out-of-pocket cost. They can tell you how much genetic testing, imaging studies, and various other healthcare services may cost. To use this service, you will need the test code (billing code) and your or your child's diagnosis codes (ICD10 codes).
Contact the medical records departmentfor copies of your or your child’s medical records. These include the doctor's notes and results from imaging studies and lab tests.
