I have been going to this location for 2 years. I never wrote a review in that time because I was such a huge fan of the childcare, that the only way I would rave about it was to close friends in hopes that the childcare wouldn't fill up even faster than it already did (it filled up DAILY, and required a 5am call to schedule a slot since it was so popular). My kids went to see Angie 5 days a week, and she became family to us. I grew to LOVE the classes, and the mental release. If I would have written a review, it would have been 5 stars BECAUSE of Angie, and childcare. I switched to Crunch because of the childcare, and although the facilities weren't ideal, it was so much better than I'd experienced at other NYC gyms, and for the price, it was totally worth it. I was thrilled. We're not wealthy, and the mental break for me to workout gave me, as a mom of 3, SANITY. I loved it. Crunch had a competitive advantage that no other gyms on the UWS could compete with.
At the end of October, with 2 days notice, myself and the other parents were told that childcare was closing for good. We were infuriated, and very vocal about our frustrations. Although we resisted and vocalized our concerns as much as we could, in every way we could think, the renovations moved forward, and Angie's little childcare space was town down. Literally.
I've gone to the gym periodically (while I have a few months comped due to the inconvenience), and every time I walk by that space, I get sick to my stomach. The changes are terrible. They have generated the BIGGEST waste of space, and a complete downgrade from the "better amenities" that now are in it's place- the little, busy, happy childcare corner, is now a 9 x 7 rectangle of useless BLACK ASTROTURF.
Crunch had something special- something that made me as a customer feel like I was getting a benefit. That benefit is gone, and although I assume corporate made the decision based on spreadsheets and numbers and growth, that decision hurt many, many people. If they would have asked, all of us would have GLADLY paid more to keep childcare, but we never had that opportunity.
Although unlikely, I hope they reconsider and bring back childcare. Until then, I'm giving Crunch (and especially Crunch corporate) and meager 1 star.

You'll find a warm welcome greeting from the staffs. At the moment, they're remodeling their appearance so getting a personal tour would be bad timing if you want to see a better first impression out of it. Everything seemed neat and clean from floor to floor but not very much spacing on every section (bathroom, sauna, showers, locker rooms) The reason why it has two stars is because of the odor on the second floor workout station, i can't workout while it smells like pig sweat. I've been associated with other gym company's and regardless how many people are in a room, others would know how to resolve that.

Poorly maintained equipment and very disorganized. Weights strewn everywhere in no particular order at all times of the day. Staff does not appear to maintain the equipment as the scale in men's weight room has never worked in the three months I've been here and there are two barbells with their ends loose or broken that haven't been replaced or repaired (also aren't enough barbells for the equipment). The upstairs gets extremely hot and humid, so much so that the walls are wet and the ceiling drips (temp is currently set at 71 which is ridiculous for a gym. See pictures. I will be leaving at the end of the month for a gym that takes itself more seriously.

Was charged twice for my final month. Sent an email, spoke with manager, still no refund. And it seems this is a common story. The facilities were ok, but once they get you signed up, good luck getting out.

Wish I could give Zero stars. Do NOT work out here. This corporation does not have any accountability to its members. They will not get on the phone, return a call, or do anything to solve any issue. The employees say they have been told to ignore complaints with hopes a customer will just quit and they can keep their money. That is how this business operates.

This gym refuses to maintain its weightlifting section's temperature within a reasonable range (which is generally accepted to be 65-68° F). It is far too hot here.

This gym has a solid weightlifting section, but it is kept at an unacceptably high temperature.

Pros: very nice front desk folks. For the space, healthy breadth of weight and cardio eqyipment. Generally sane, respectful, dedicated clientele.
Cons: a month ago all cleaning products were removed from the gym, with no indication that they'll be replaced. As a result the weight equipment is in a foul state, not to mention the potential of infectioun in this year of historically dangerous flu.
Personal trainers are permitted to bounce members off stations or equipment they're using without notice or asking to work in.
Attempts to address these issues with both the property's and regional management received no response. There doesn't seem to have been any on-site management for two weeks, and some question whether it will be replaced. Front desk staff are not authorized to address any issues. The cons far outweigh the monthly fee. On to the next option.

Decent location. I like that they have a steam room and a sauna. Most locations have one or the other. Also this location probably has the softest, fluffiest towels of all the Crunch locations I've been so far.

Its an OK gym, better than NY Sports by far. The treadmills are generally not working properly, either TV or the sound is not working. Only one small stomach machine, and themats for floor work are always crowded and difficult to get on.
Weight lifting area is cramped and you are right on top of the next person. Problem is the entire downstairs level is all for classes ground floor is all running machines, weights a jammed into one level.
For a few dollars more you can go to Equinox or David Barton, which is what I did. I also so not like the sneaky charges they throw on once in a while. I wish I lived in a building with a gym, way more convenient.

This place has gone downhill. The cardio machines are often partially broken. My biggest gripe is that they continued to charge me after I canceled my membership. Very shady. On the bight side - their trainers are solid. However, I would look elsewhere for an above board UWS gym.
